In 2010, Catriona completed exams, registration and licencing requirements to practice as an OTR/L in America and worked in a rehabilitation hospital in New Jersey. In this setting Catriona worked with clients with brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputations and those post traumatic orthopaedic injuries.
On return to Cork in 2011 Catriona commenced working part-time in an amputee rehabilitation clinic part time and is highly specialised in the area of amputee rehabilitation. Catriona graduated from an MSc in Older Person Rehabilitation in 2016 and also now works part time in rehabilitating older persons in their home to facilitate rapid discharge home from hospital and to prevent hospital admissions.
Catriona is involved in the running of her family’s dairy farm near Cork City. She has in depth knowledge of the cognitive and physical demands involved in running a farm.
She has linked with organisations in Ireland (EMBRACE) and America (Agrability) to further her knowledge in assisting those with physical disabilities in continuing to farm. She has a keen interest in promoting farm safety and supporting physically disabled clients in farming in a safe manner.
Recipient of Health Research Board Summer Student Scholarship – Researched the impact of virtual reality on intervention for individuals with Spinal Cord Injury in the National Rehabilitation Hospital.
First Recipient of The Professor Susan Ryan Award for Entrepreneurial skills, creativity and professionalism as an Occupational Therapy Student.
Shortlisted for the Association of Occupational Therapy Ireland’s Anne Beckett Award for the design and implementation of “The Resilience and Recovery Group” in Mental Health Services.
Appointed by Minster for Health, Minster Stephen Donnelly, T.D. to CORU’s Occupational Therapists Registration Board.
